Three decades of Gasthof De Zevensterre

In 1984, Emiel and Viviane Valcke decided to change course and traded their 9-to-5 jobs for an exciting life in hospitality. Many friends and acquaintances declared them ‘quite crazy’ to take this risk.

Where cows were still roaming a year earlier in what was then Kortwagenstraat, a new party venue was built. It was named after the nearby ponds where sand extraction took place. Later, the street name was changed to Zevensterstraat.

Emiel, who actually graduated as a baker, had mainly gained kitchen experience in the retirement home of Heusden. He took charge of the kitchen. And Viviane, until then a clerk at the Post Office, took care of the service. It became a success and „Gasthof De Zevensterre” quickly became well-known in the region and far beyond.

Nathalie and Dominique

That their three children would also attend hotel school was almost a given. After their studies at the hotel school in Koksijde, two of them joined the team. Son Dominique in 1997 in the kitchen, and daughter Nathalie in 2002 in the dining room. Although you can also find Nathalie in the kitchen during mise-en-place and, for example, making ice cream for the dessert buffet, one of De Zevensterre’s showpieces.

While it’s mainly Dominique and Nathalie who have been at the helm of this beautiful venue in recent years, you might still run into Emiel and Viviane.

Nathalie: „Mom and dad still help a lot in the business, because they don’t want to hear about sitting still. And that suits us just fine!”

Atmospheric Location

The basic concept has remained: a cozy, atmospheric location for 130 to 160 seated guests depending on the room layout. And for receptions and walking dinners, the hall is suitable for 200 people. The interior is modern-rustic, equipped with air conditioning and mood lighting. For furniture, there are round, square, and long tables with white linen. And chairs with or without chair covers, as you can decide for yourself.

The cozy veranda offers space for 35 seated guests, but it can also be used as a reception or buffet area. The well-maintained garden with terrace and pergola are perfect for receptions. But thanks to the unique oak outdoor kitchen, you can also host barbecues and walking dinners here.

De Zevensterre is free from disco bar and has no closing time.

Surprise Breakfast on Sunday

Nathalie and Dominique aren’t afraid to organize their own parties or activities in between. Since mid-September this year, every Sunday morning at Gasthof De Zevensterre, you can fully enjoy a surprise breakfast. A beautiful assortment of breakfast pastries, hard and soft rolls, special bread, various savory and sweet toppings, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, egg, fresh fruit juice,… and for a few euros more, also a delicious glass of cava.

Group Meals and Corporate Events

De Zevensterre is not just a party venue. You can come here for all kinds of group meals. Thanks to the numerous tourist attractions, the region is popular with associations and day tourists. And for years, coach companies and tourist services from far and wide have been coming to De Zevensterre for a stopover or a delicious lunch during their day trip.
