10 tips to grow through Instagram

Tips for using Instagram for my business:

Want to start using Instagram but not sure how to begin? You’re not alone! That’s why I’ve worked out some tips for you.

  1. How often should I post?

As often as possible, but note (!) quality over quantity. It’s better not to spam your followers every day. The best would be to post 1/2 times per day. Can’t manage this or don’t have good content for your business? Then post engaging content 2 to 3 times per week. Choose, for example, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday and Thursday.

2. What kind of content should I post?

As mentioned before, it’s important to focus on quality, not quantity. For example, post the menu of the week on Monday, on Wednesday post a photo of staff or customers (with their permission), and on Friday post an appealing photo of a dish that people really must come try that weekend.

3. Different features

As most people know, Instagram has many different features. Use them! Post photos and videos, use livestreams, use Instagram stories to show what you’re working on. For example, the preparation of an exciting dish.

4. Hashtags

As you know, you can use engaging hashtags. You can use up to 30 per post. Use all of them. Research well which hashtags work best for your business. Think of #chef #restaurant #delicious #locationname etc. Instagram also suggests which ones you can add.

5. Posts

Make sure your posts don’t contain long texts. People scroll through their feed very quickly and don’t want to wait to read a long text. Keep it short but powerful!

6. Create interaction

Create interaction with your followers. You can do this by asking your followers a question. When people respond to your post, you can respond back with a question or a nice thank you.

7. Content

As mentioned before, it’s about the quality of the content. What can you post? Show beautiful photos of your dishes. Explain what makes them unique and end with a question. Then post photos of your establishment and give your followers more information. Think about general information like opening hours, but also tell more about the story behind your business. Additionally, posts with real photos work best. Try to avoid posting stock photos. Take a nice photo of a full establishment with guests. People will then more quickly think that if the place is full, it must be really good. Then people will be more inclined to visit. It’s also nice to show customer reviews. Or come up with tips or employee of the day for example.

Besides photos, also post videos. Often videos work even better because people are too lazy to read the text with photos. Therefore, vary your content well.

8. Branding

Use your logo more often in your content. People will connect your logo to your business and will remember your logo more quickly if they’ve seen it more often.

9. Canva

For creating your content, it’s best to use Canva. This website is free and you can do much more with it than just making Instagram posts. Really recommended!

10. Plan your content ahead

Do you sometimes not know what to post? Recognizable? Therefore, make a schedule once a month for the content you want to use in the coming month. Do you have a contest, menu of the day etc.? Plan ahead. This way you’ll know exactly what photos you still need to take. Additionally, with programs like Hootsuite you can schedule your Instagram posts in advance. This saves you time and stress, and you’re sure your photos will be posted.
