Vegan alternative launched for Greek yogurt

Abbot Kinney’s, producer of plant-based products, celebrates its fifth anniversary with the launch of a new and fully vegan product. Coco Greek Style is a plant-based alternative to Greek yogurt, made from almond and coconut.

According to the Dutch Association for Vegans, the Netherlands now has about 121,000 people who eat vegan; approximately 2.5 times as many as in 2014. In other words: vegan food is becoming increasingly popular.

Vegan products

Abbot Kinney’s has been responding to this trend for five years by bringing fully vegan products to the market. Coco Greek Style is the tenth vegan product from the Amsterdam-based company. The product is available from this week at Marqt and Ekoplaza.

Previously, Abbot Kinney’s had already launched various vegan ice cream flavors, based on coconut. Coconut yogurt and almond yogurt are also part of the brand’s product portfolio.

Plant-based Greek yogurt

Conventional Greek yogurt is rich in fats and proteins. Abbot Kinney’s has ensured that their plant-based variant has the same qualities. Coco Greek Style therefore contains exactly the same protein and fat content as dairy-based Greek yogurt. The yogurt is also organically produced and has no added sugars.

Breaking the routine

Research by Mintel Consulting shows that half of the Dutch people who already drink plant-based milk still have dairy products in their fridge. Twenty percent of respondents attribute this to routine. Abbot Kinney’s states that it wants to break that routine through plant-based alternatives.

The company has now produced over 5.5 million plant-based yogurts and ice creams, achieving a CO2 saving of 368 tons.
