3 secrets to create an atmospheric interior in your hospitality business

Are you looking for a way to make your establishment’s interior more atmospheric?

People love going to places where it’s fun and cozy to spend time. Nothing is better than lingering for hours in an atmospheric restaurant or café, enjoying delicious dishes and a refreshing aperitif.

When the atmosphere in the establishment is pleasant and intimate, guests usually want to stay longer, which can only be good for the business. But how do you start creating a good atmosphere?

Did you know that lighting already contributes significantly to creating a cozy atmosphere?

When entering an establishment that radiates a cozy atmosphere, customers will feel happy. They’re looking for relaxation and are curious about the interior.

Create the right atmosphere by considering the following points:

  1. Choose a style that fits your establishment:

The design of your establishment is super important. Everything must be right. The facade should be a preview of what the customer can expect inside. If it’s austere, the customer might expect that the interior will be the same and might be less inclined to enter . A warm, atmospheric facade invites people to enter the establishment.

Which styles can we distinguish and what effects do these styles create? We’ll limit ourselves to the 4 most important styles below:

  • Modern style: You recognize this style by its sleekness. It’s a style where everyone feels at home: both young and old. It’s trendy and stylish. It’s not the style that exudes a warm atmosphere, so not the kind of style where you often feel inclined to stay long. The lamps used here are often sleek and remind people of a style that most people like to see. It’s a style that sometimes comes across as cold and doesn’t immediately create a warm atmosphere. However, modern style is also sometimes combined with other styles like classic or country. This way the cold character of the style is compensated with warmer elements. For example, a copper or gold-colored pendant lamp will contribute to creating a warmer atmosphere. The combination with square recessed spots is also frequently used. The recessed spots are then used as general lighting while the pendant lamps are placed above tables for extra illumination.

  • Industrial style: This style is also called the vintage style. It’s the style you used to see in factories. It’s characterized by a rough decor with lots of metal use and few accessories. The floor is usually sleek, for example a concrete screed floor. The lamps are often rough and are used as eye-catchers, often reminiscent of old factory lamps. The style is beautiful, but the rough appearance doesn’t contribute to creating a warm atmosphere. That’s why the lighting is sometimes delivered in warmer colors. A wall lamp in rust color or a pendant lamp in light brown tint will make the whole softer and warmer.

Classical style: This style is recognized by its timeless character. There are sometimes elements of baroque style present. Many decorative elements are used, such as old paintings and candelabras. The furniture is often stylish and very decorative, and many frills are used, such as fabrics with tassels. It’s a warm style that also brings the necessary tranquility and lets you enjoy. Candelabras and chandeliers fit perfectly with this style. These pieces of furniture are very decorative and evoke nostalgia.

  • Country style: This style is also called the English style or „cottage”. It’s the style you find in country houses in rural areas. Characteristic are the many decorative elements and use of pastel colors in beige and gray. The country style evokes peace and coziness. Wood, wrought iron doors, rustic bricks, and a fireplace provide the perfect harmony of this style. The lighting is often very high-quality and consists of bronze or other precious metals. Bronze chandeliers, for example with candles, strongly contribute to creating a warm atmosphere.

  • Choose a beautiful harmony between the colors. The colors must be adapted to the style. The classic style combines beautifully with burgundy red and dark brown. Modern is often white. With industrial, brick red, dark brown, and black often go very well together. For the country style, it’s best to choose pastel colors. Bright colors will be more difficult to combine with this style. Often beige or taupe is used with this style.
  • Choose quality lighting: Lighting is the finishing touch of your interior and often the budget doesn’t allow for expensive fixtures anymore. Budget your lighting as early as possible, because it determines the largest part of the atmosphere in your establishment. Choose quality materials, as the lifespan is long.
